7 Tips for Staying Energized
Here are 7 safe, solid and proven tips to help you stay energized all through the day.
BTW – these don’t come from me, they are from patients who have read my book and then come up with their own ways to make healthy lifestyle behaviors work in their lives. Those that do the following things say they have energy all day – and they are losing weight, too!
7 Tips for Staying Energized
- Eat breakfast. Have an Egg McMuffin if you want – but you have to make it yourself at home – it can’t be the one at the drive thru. Take an English muffin (whole wheat is better), one egg or egg whites, lean ham or even a couple of slices of bacon and low fat or fat free cheese. (Are you really so deprived?) The protein and complex carbs will fuel you through the morning and you won’t be ravenous at lunch.
- Brown bag your lunch every single day. You’ll save a lot money. Build your own sandwiches or salads with fresh foods and don’t forget the lean protein. It only takes 10 extra minutes in the morning – be late to work if necessary – this is more important.
- Eat simple meals in the evening comprised of whole foods with lean proteins and double servings of salad or vegetables instead of carbs like potatoes and pasta.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Watch sugar, salt, caffeine and alcohol – they’re addictive, increase cravings and suck energy. Avoid junk food. It is called junk food because it is – junk. It does nothing for your body, does not give you energy and is a big culprit in weight gain. Whether it is fast food, chips, cookies or convenience foods in a box – its junk – so try to avoid it most of the time.
- Exercise regularly – nothing will do more to stoke your energy and stamina. If you can, take a break from work for a brief walk. A little fresh air is like a mini-vacation in the middle of a work day.
- Get enough rest and sleep. By rest I mean downtime from work and responsibilities; free time to play at things you enjoy. Getting enough sleep will improve your immune system and make you more resilient to life’s trials and tribulations.
